I went on a very quick trip with two friends and we came back dog tired. We walked until our knees and backs gave out. We had big plans. We had little plans. We saw some big things. Some memorable things. Some little treasures. Got rained on one morning. Dried out and started again. 

I took  some street photos but not nearly as many as I would have liked.  I like to capture the spirit of a place with some travel sketches. 

I have little "postcard art" from the trip and I try to see which ones might be good for bigger paintings, so I have versions in various sizes in various media.

Looking forward to early next year, I will be teaching a short workshop and it's about the idea of "finding the painting in the image" – NOT painting the picture, but finding the painting.

So far the NYC images are in the "travel sketch"  category but they can evolve into the "painting on the wall." Stay tuned.
